A journey to independence and a soaring ADR

The origin story

A bonafide institution

For many years The Lansdowne had been tightly controlled by the bedroom juggernaut that is Best Western. Rigid, base brand guidelines had rendered this family run property into another unit inside the global machine. No personality. No brand. No voice. And a belly full of commission for the owners to pay up every month for the pleasure.

Something had to change. Independence and refinement were needed.

The big idea

Always here.

The Lansdowne has been family owned since 1912, that’s a pretty long time to be owned (and still operating). They had always been on the seafront. A part of the establishment. Consistency in hospitality is key. It’s a cornerstone of service.

It needed a sentiment that suggested that. Let’s not forget the sea – it has been and will always be here long after we are gone. There were so many tie ins with the sentiment of always. It was simply unavoidable

  • The logo
The swift logo was symbolic with a migrating bird flying south. Escaping the humdrum, flying to where the air is fresh and clean. this was then overlaid on a crest inscribed on one the pillars that no one took any attention of for years. Combined with the “Always here” sentiment, the date 1912 and you have the beginnings of a brand that is both elegant and contemporary.
  • The colour palette
The palette is similarly fresh, but sophisticated. Evocative of nature with a touch of luxury.
  • The expansion of Always
From here the idea expanded exponentially by using Always. Touching all collateral in terms of tonality and providing a simple to understand premise for its teams that consistency, family (in the broadest concept) and  keeping things fresh were cornerstones of the service.

The Tonality Lens

The Creative

The “Always Here” concept has run for over four years now and still looks fresh. From Emails to websites, to restaurant branding, to print and hotel essentials all is covered and aligned.

The Summary

I have worked with the Lansdowne for over eight years. that’s a long time in branding terms. As their guardian in terms of visual look and feel, all digital touch points, service touches and offer generation, this start to finish approach highlights the need for an effective consistent and creative voice – managed by one consultant. The ultimate ROI of hospitality branding

Great hospitality branding creates a real advantage. When a brand successfully marries an authentic narrative, flawless multi-sensory design, and a highly aligned team culture, it stops competing purely on price.

How do you brand a manufacturing business?

Branding a B2B business comes with it’s history. as a brand consultant the expectation with the client is that their product isn’t very interesting. “how do you sell something you can’t really see?” It’s easy.
